Description

These homemade cake pops are a delightful, bite-sized treat that’s perfect for any occasion! They combine moist cake with a sweet coating, making them a fun and delicious dessert for parties, gifts, or just a treat for yourself.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box of cake mix (or homemade cake recipe, any flavor)
  • Ingredients required by the cake mix (typically eggs, oil, and water)

For the Frosting:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Coating:

  1. 1 ½ cups chocolate chips or candy melts (white, milk, or dark chocolate)
  2. Lollipop sticks or wooden skewers
  3. Sprinkles or other decorations (optional)

Instructions

  • Bake the Cake:
    • Prepare the cake according to the package instructions (or your homemade cake recipe). Bake in an 8×8-inch pan and allow it to cool completely.
  • Make the Frosting:
    • Beat the softened butter in a bowl until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time. Add milk and vanilla extract and continue to beat until the frosting is fluffy and smooth.
  • Crumble the Cake:
    • Once the cake has cooled, crumble it into fine crumbs using your hands or a fork. Place the crumbs in a large bowl.
  • Mix the Frosting with Cake Crumbs:
    • Add the frosting to the cake crumbs, one spoonful at a time. Mix until the cake becomes sticky and holds together when pressed. You may not need all the frosting, so add it gradually.
  • Shape the Cake Balls:
    • Roll the cake mixture into small balls, about 1-1 ½ inches in diameter. A cookie scoop works great for consistent sizing.
  • Insert the Lollipop Sticks:
    • Melt a small portion of your chocolate or candy melts and dip the end of each lollipop stick into the melted coating. Insert the stick into the center of each cake ball to help them stay secure.
  • Chill the Cake Pops:
    • Place the cake pops on a tray or plate and chill them in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes to firm up, making it easier to coat them.
  • Coat the Cake Pops:
    • Melt the remaining chocolate or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. Dip each cake pop into the coating, ensuring the cake ball is fully covered.
  • Decorate:
    • While the coating is still wet, sprinkle with sprinkles, edible glitter, or other decorative toppings.
  • Let Set:
    • Stick the cake pops into a Styrofoam block or a similar holder to allow the coating to harden. Let them set for about 20-30 minutes.

Notes

  • You can use any flavor of cake mix (chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, etc.).
  • Feel free to get creative with coatings and decorations like colored sugar, drizzle, or even crushed nuts.
  • Store the cake pops in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
