Description

These cranberry orange sweet rolls are a delightful twist on the classic cinnamon roll, featuring a tangy-sweet cranberry filling and a luscious orange glaze. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a festive treat!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

For the Orange Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp orange juice
  • 1 tsp orange zest

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warmed milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Make the Filling: In a saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, orange zest, and orange juice. Cook over medium heat until cranberries burst and thicken slightly. Cool completely.
  3. Assemble Rolls: Roll out the dough into a 12×16-inch rectangle. Spread softened butter evenly over the dough, followed by the cranberry mixture. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 even slices.
  4. Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  5. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Make the Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest. Drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

  • For extra richness, add chopped pecans or walnuts to the filling.
  • These rolls can be prepared the night before and baked fresh in the morning.
  • Store leftover rolls in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
