Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 burger buns
- 1 cup homemade or canned chili (with or without beans)
- Lettuce, for garnish
- Tomato slices, for garnish
- Pickles, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, onion, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Form the mixture into 4 equal patties, pressing down slightly in the center to ensure even cooking.
- Cook the patties on the grill or skillet for 5-7 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- While the burgers cook, heat the chili in a separate pot over low heat.
- Once the burgers are cooked, place each patty on a bun and top with a generous spoonful of warm chili.
- Add shredded cheddar cheese on top, allowing it to melt slightly from the heat of the chili.
- Garnish with lettuce, tomato slices, and pickles.
- Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
Notes
- Feel free to customize the chili with ground turkey or vegetarian ingredients for a different twist.
- For extra flavor, toast the burger buns on the grill before assembling.
- This recipe also works well with sweet potato fries on the side.
