Ingredients
Scale
- 8 pieces chicken (drumsticks or thighs)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
- For the Honey Garlic Sauce:
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp butter
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix buttermilk, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken pieces, cover, and marinate for at least 1 hour (or overnight in the fridge).
- In a shallow dish, combine flour and cornstarch. Dredge each piece of marinated chicken in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to coat evenly.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot (around 350°F or 175°C), fry the chicken in batches for 8-10 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken and drain on paper towels.
- While the chicken is frying, prepare the honey garlic sauce. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar, and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Once the chicken is done, toss it in the honey garlic sauce until fully coated.
- Serve immediately, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
- For extra crunch, double-dip the chicken in the flour mixture before frying.
- You can bake the chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 25-30 minutes if you prefer a healthier version.
- Serve with steamed rice or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
