Crispy, crunchy, and perfectly golden on the outside with juicy, tender chicken on the inside. This honey garlic fried chicken is glazed with a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce that takes it to the next level of deliciousness.

Ingredients

Scale
  1. 8 pieces chicken (drumsticks or thighs)
  2. 1 cup buttermilk
  3. 1 cup all-purpose flour
  4. 1 tsp paprika
  5. 1 tsp garlic powder
  6. 1 tsp onion powder
  7. 1/2 tsp salt
  8. 1/2 tsp black pepper
  9. 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  10. 1/4 cup cornstarch
  11. 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  12. For the Honey Garlic Sauce:
    • 1/4 cup honey
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 tbsp soy sauce
    • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
    • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix buttermilk, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken pieces, cover, and marinate for at least 1 hour (or overnight in the fridge).
  • In a shallow dish, combine flour and cornstarch. Dredge each piece of marinated chicken in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to coat evenly.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot (around 350°F or 175°C), fry the chicken in batches for 8-10 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken and drain on paper towels.
  • While the chicken is frying, prepare the honey garlic sauce. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Stir in honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar, and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  • Once the chicken is done, toss it in the honey garlic sauce until fully coated.
  • Serve immediately, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double-dip the chicken in the flour mixture before frying.
  • You can bake the chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 25-30 minutes if you prefer a healthier version.
  • Serve with steamed rice or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
