Description

This Mongolian chicken recipe features crispy chicken coated in a savory, slightly sweet sauce with hints of ginger and garlic. It’s a flavorful, restaurant-style dish that’s easy to make at home!

Ingredients

Scale
  1. 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  2. 1/2 cup cornstarch
  3. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  4. 1/4 cup soy sauce
  5. 1/4 cup brown sugar
  6. 2 tablespoons water
  7. 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  8. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  9. 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  10. 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, toss the chicken pieces in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken and cook until crispy and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add ginger, garlic, soy sauce, brown sugar, and water. Stir to combine and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Return the chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce.
  • Add red pepper flakes if desired for extra heat.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot with rice.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, you can double fry the chicken.
  • Adjust the sweetness or saltiness by adding more or less brown sugar or soy sauce.
