Description

These homemade Starbucks-inspired Cake Pops are a fun and delicious treat! Moist cake is coated in smooth chocolate or candy melts, then decorated to resemble the famous Starbucks cake pops. They’re perfect for parties, gifts, or a sweet snack!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box of cake mix (any flavor, or homemade cake recipe)
  • Ingredients needed for the cake mix (usually eggs, oil, and water)

For the Frosting:

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Coating:

  1. 1 ½ cups chocolate chips or candy melts (white, milk, or dark chocolate)
  2. Lollipop sticks or wooden skewers
  3. Sprinkles or decorations (optional)

Instructions

  • Bake the Cake:
    • Prepare the cake according to the package instructions or your homemade recipe. Bake in an 8×8-inch pan and allow the cake to cool completely.
  • Make the Frosting:
    • In a bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, while mixing. Add milk and vanilla extract and beat until smooth and fluffy.
  • Crumble the Cake:
    • Once the cake has cooled, crumble it into fine crumbs using your hands or a fork. Place the crumbs in a large bowl.
  • Mix the Frosting with Cake Crumbs:
    • Add the frosting to the cake crumbs, a little at a time, until the mixture is moist and sticky but not too wet. You want the cake crumbs to hold together when pressed.
  • Form the Cake Balls:
    • Take small portions of the cake mixture and roll them into balls, about 1-1 ½ inches in diameter. You can use a cookie scoop to ensure they are uniform in size.
  • Insert the Sticks:
    • Melt a small amount of chocolate or candy melts and dip the end of each lollipop stick into the melted coating. Insert the stick into the center of each cake ball. This helps the stick stay in place and prevents the cake pops from falling apart.
  • Chill the Cake Pops:
    • Place the cake pops in the fridge or freezer for about 15-20 minutes to firm up. This makes them easier to dip and decorate.
  • Coat the Cake Pops:
    • Melt the remaining chocolate or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. Dip each cake pop into the melted coating, making sure it’s fully covered.
  • Decorate:
    • While the coating is still wet, add sprinkles, drizzle, or other decorations of your choice.
  • Allow to Set:
    • Place the cake pops upright in a Styrofoam block or similar object to allow the coating to set and harden completely, about 20-30 minutes.

Notes

  • You can make these cake pops with any flavor of cake, but chocolate or vanilla works best for most people.
  • For a more Starbucks-like effect, dip the pops in white chocolate or candy melts, and drizzle with chocolate.
