Comfort food at its best! This easy Tater Tot Casserole combines crispy tater tots, creamy beef filling, and melted cheese for a hearty and satisfying meal the whole family will love.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Cook Beef Mixture:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Drain any excess fat.
  • Mix Filling:
    • Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Assemble the Casserole:
    • Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
    • Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture.
    • Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top.
  • Bake:
    • Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  • Add Cheese:
    • Sprinkle the remaining cup of cheddar cheese over the top. Bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  • Serve:
    1. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Add vegetables like green beans or peas to the beef mixture for extra nutrition.
  • For a spicy kick, mix in some diced jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
