Description

These Perfect Chewy Sugar Cookies are soft, thick, and just the right amount of sweetness. With a crisp edge and a tender center, they melt in your mouth—making them a classic favorite for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined.
  5. Scoop dough into tablespoon-sized balls and roll in the ¼ cup of sugar.
  6. Place the dough balls on the baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden, but the centers are still soft.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add ½ tsp of almond extract. Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them soft and chewy.
