Description

Smothered Chicken is a comforting, savory dish with tender chicken smothered in a flavorful, creamy gravy. The rich sauce, made with onions, garlic, and seasonings, adds depth to every bite. Perfect for pairing with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite sides.

Ingredients

Scale
  1. 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  2. 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  3. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  4. 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  5. 2 cups chicken broth
  6. 1/2 cup heavy cream
  7. 1 tbsp olive oil
  8. 1 tsp paprika
  9. 1 tsp thyme
  10. 1/2 tsp salt
  11. 1/4 tsp black pepper
  12. Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Season chicken breasts with paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken and cook until golden brown on both sides (about 5 minutes per side). Remove chicken and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add sliced onions and garlic, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour over the onions and garlic, stirring to form a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Slowly add chicken broth, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
  • Stir in heavy cream and return chicken to the skillet. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the delicious gravy.
  • This dish can also be made with bone-in chicken thighs for added flavor.
